Residence permit for Spain for investors (Golden visa)
From September 30, 2013 Spain has offered an alternative, simplified means of obtaining a residence permit for those who are willing to invest in the country's economy. This type of residence permit, also called a “Golden Visa”, does not impose strict limits on the time spent in Spain, but provides the immediate right to work or to do business, and is much easier to obtain, mainly due to the absence of any need to confirm the sources and amounts of income earned outside of Spain.
The simplest and most common basis for obtaining such a residence permit (visa) for an investor is to buy a property worth €500 thousand, but there are other options:
- opening of a bank deposit in the amount of €1 million;
- fund investments in the amount of €1 million;
- investments in the national debt of Spain in the amount of at least €2 million;
- implementation of an innovative business project;
- significant investments in one’s own business in Spain;
- work as a highly qualified specialist.
This residence permit (visa) can be applied for not only by investors, but also by members of his/her family: spouse, children (minors), and, from October 2015, also parents and adult children if they can confirm financial dependency on the investor.

Moreover, this applies not only to Russian citizens, but also to citizens of any country in the world. Our company is a leader in this area, as evidenced by statistics from the Unit for Large Companies and Strategic Economic Sectors of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Spain.

The processing time is usually no more than two weeks. As a result, the investor and his family can obtain special ‘type D’ visas for a period of 365 days with no restrictions on the duration of their stay in Spain – you can stay in the country any number of days from 0 to 365 days during the year.
The next step is the extension of a type D visa and obtaining a residence permit card for Spain for 2 years, and in the future, for 5 years. Diplomat-Consulting provides assistance in solving these issues as well - the process is described in a separate article on our website.
